ROOFS AND MAILBOXES

It has come to the attention of our Association Code Enforcement Board Member that there are many roofs in our community in need of a good cleaning.  If you are not having your roofs cleaned professionally, we offer this advice.  Before pressure cleaning the roof, put down a 10:1 mix of pool chlorine or "Oxi-Clean" (6 pounds for about $14.00 at Sam's Club). After soaking your roof with these mixtures, you then use a pressure cleaner. The chlorine or Oxi-Clean will kill the mildew and your roof will stay clean and bright for many months, possibly longer than a year. Remember, pressure cleaning alone will not work. Your roofs will be black again within a couple of months.  You must kill the mildew.

Also, there are many mailboxes in the community which are in a state of disrepair and should either be repaired or replaced. There are many different types of mailboxes available and the ones which seem to be most popular are the new green or white "rubbermaid" types which slip directly over the 4 X 4 posts which now anchor most of the boxes here.  These mailboxes can be found in any home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes.  You can also find custom mailboxes in the yellow pages under "mailboxes"

Please pay particular attention to these two items. There is about to be a crackdown on these 2 beautification items and many of you will be receiving "friendly" notices from the Association.  Be forewarned.

A REQUEST FOR YOUR SAFETY

Is your house easily recognizable if Fire/Rescue, Paramedics or Police are needed at your home?

Many homes in our community are not!

It is suggested by all local law enforcement and Fire Rescue agencies that all homes be readily identified by six inch numbers on the front of your house.  In addition, reflective numbers should be placed on BOTH sides of your mailbox.  Just because the postman comes from one direction, this doesn't mean a firetruck, ambulance or police car will.  They have got to identify your home from any direction.

PLEASE!  FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THOSE OF YOUR LOVED ONES,

TAKE THE TIME TO PROPERLY IDENTIFY YOUR HOME

{MAILMAN}A REQUEST FROM YOUR LETTER CARRIER

The Association has been contacted by our letter carrier requesting all of our residents to please refrain from placing trash receptacles in front of or near your mailbox. Also, please do not block the mailboxes with your vehicles or any of those of your visitors. If you have a lawn service or any other kind of maintenance being performed, please inform your contractor of this request also. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

COMMUNITY SPEEDING

One of the biggest problems our residents are faced with is speeding through the community, especially on Hawkes Bluff Avenue and Huntridge Road. The Board has heard many complaints from our residents about this problem. In the past, the Davie Police Department has been asked to do spot enforcement for this problem and many of our neighbors have been ticketed. In fact, during the latest crackdown, of all the tickets which were issued, only one was to a non-resident. We have received complaints from the people who have been ticketed, claiming that this has been a case of harassment. Well folks, the harassment will continue! This is the only way the problem can be controlled. If some of these folks get ticketed enough times, maybe their licenses will be suspended and the problem will be resolved. In the meantime, your Board will guarantee that the "harassment" will continue.

TRASH CONTAINERS AND REFUSE

In the interest of maintaining the aesthetics of our neighborhood, please do not place your trash containers by your swale any earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup. Many residents are putting out their trash containers on Saturday for a Monday pickup and it does look a bit untidy. Also, you are reminded that all trash containers and refuse must be kept either in your garage or in a side yard, out of view from the street. Thanks for your cooperation.

house  ROUTINE UPKEEP  house

In general, all of our neighbors have been maintaining the exterior of their homes pretty well. As a reminder, please keep your roofs and driveways clean, your mailboxes in serviceable condition and your lawns and shrubbery trimmed. Also, for those of you who have trees in your swales, they are your responsibility to maintain. The neighborhood looks pretty good right now. Let's all pull together and maintain our property and values. Thanks again.

DRIVEWAY PARKING

One of the ongoing complaints by our residents has been the continuing problem of some of our neighbors who constantly park their cars in their driveways and block the sidewalks on Hawkes Bluff Avenue and Huntridge Road. This practice is extremely inconsiderate to your neighbors and their children who have to walk out in the street to go around your vehicles. Not only is this practice a safety hazard, it is also in violation of the law. This has been a recurring problem in the neighborhood and it has to stop before someone either gets injured or killed by oncoming traffic. If necessary, the Association may be forced to seek police help with this problem. Please cooperate. Remember, the life you save, may be your children's.
